The Office Christmas Party: Dress Code 101

With December in full swing, so too is the Holiday Party Circuit. With year-end celebrations, and various other office events filling your social calendar, there are countless occasions to display your sartorial skills. Where some look at this as an opportunity to show off a stylish number, others may be in a constant state of worry over what to wear. It’s not always easy to decide how formal or festive to look for a work function, especially one that can efficiently transition from desk-to-party. Rather than create a strategic plan or roam dozens of shops for the perfect look, take a cue from some of our favorite ensembles when dressing for that next office event.

Whether a daytime event, luncheon, or happy hour drinks, dressing formal is not expected. Unless specified otherwise, opt for a business casual approach keeping in mind that a certain level of office dress code still remains. (Aka leave the jeans and sneakers at home). Think tailored dresses or pantsuits in luxurious fabrics. A perfect blend between business appropriate and elegant is always flattering. We love Etienne Aigner’s crystal pleated skirt in bronze from AHA Life. With its metallic finish – a perfect hue this season, a touch of shimmer and pleated details you’ll be a vision in bronze.

Evening events call for a bit more formality. A seated dinner, gala, or office party can range from black-tie optional, cocktail, festive, and semi-formal. A lovely option when attending a sophisticated party is a silk dress. Besides its luxurious softness and lustrous beauty, silk is an all-climate fabric; warm and cozy in winter and comfortably cool when temperatures rise. Silk is the go-to fabric for a stylish party. A covetable dress this season is the Andie Dress from Taigan. A silk faille fit and flare peplum dress with keyhole neckline provides the most flattering silhouette. Available in 33 different colors, making it virtually a custom dress for your year-end soiree.

Regardless of the event you’re attending and what you will be wearing, consider the season (and climate) that you are dressing for. Substituting a lace cocktail dress for a poly/wool blend shift simply because of a cooler climate however is not necessary. Fortunately, we have found the ultimate companion to keep you warm for the walk from valet to foyer.
